Uriel Romero.
A former manufacturing laborer for 30 years. He brings the skills of the assembly line to his work. Its within this unskilled set of training that he approaches his process of art making.
What motivated him to start painting was a self reflecting quote while commuting to work. “ I would not make stupid Art”. Since then, the quest for self expression of the ordinary has been his challenge, to find beauty in the meaningless day to day life events. Such as the endless hours spent commuting to work, or the unnecessary late night conversations with an stranger at a bar.
He has called the Coachella Valley home since 2008. The beauty of the desert. The constant changing of the shadows in the mountains are the driving forces behind, his ideas. He says, he does not know for sure, what his work is about. There is never a plan or sketch It all starts with the materials at hand. A blank canvas and a can of paint is a good place to be.
